Bayonne, ferias and gastronomy, sun and ocean!

Bayonne is a city located in the southwest of France, in the Aquitaine region. It is close to the spanish border and the Atlantic Ocean. This city is the economic capital of the french Basque country.

Bayonne is a fortified city with many narrow streets and typical houses.

The Saint Mary’s cathedral is a gothic style building that is listed to the UNESCO world heritage. The cloister next to the cathedral also deserves the detour. Bayonne also proposes many museums such as the chocolate workshop or the Bonnat museum. If you want to know more about the region’s history, chose the Basque museum with its very rich ethnographic collections.

Bayonne is also famous for its ferias, which are the 5th biggest meeting in the world! This event lasts 5 days and celebrates bullfightings. The Basque coast also offers wonderful beaches for your summer holidays!

    EXCELENTE
  • "A Breeze Rail Journey"
It was a wonderful experience. I booked rail tickets on line in Singapore, had it printed and when in Paris, just sat back and enjoyed the rail journey. The only small glitch, if I may call it one, was that the coach number on the ticket from Paris to Bayonne ( 1st sector ) got over printed and unable to make it out. Even the Inspector scanning the ticket could not decipher the number but he kindly told me to board first and he will sort it out once train bound, and which he did promptly. Even the passengers, who were total strangers, stepped up to offer assistance. Our rail journey took us from Paris to Lourdes, with stopovers in Bayonne and Pau on the return trip. Apart from the slight glitch, the rest of the journey was a breeze. Very highly recommended.
  • "Fast and comfortable"
I have enjoyed my journey on TGV. It was fast, smooth and comfortable, though I wish toilets on the train were better. But this is a usual problem on the train, so perhaps you can find some universal solution to the problem?
