Bologna city guide

In Bologna , let yourself be surprised

Student city Bologna’s past lives on in its towers , churches and palaces and the interlocking piazzas and colonnades of blood-red brick: the colour of Bologna’s greatest gift to students everywhere – spaghetti Bolognese.

Bologna has one of the largest historical centre in Europe. Here, you will admire the main square dating back from the 15th century: the Piazza Maggiore, and its numerous medieval edifices.

Among them you should visit the Town Hall in the Palazzo d’Accursio, the beautiful Palazzo del Podesta and the gothic Basilica of San Petronio. Nearby is the Piazza del Nettuno where you’ll be astonished by the Fountain of Neptune.

To appreciate a large view on the city, climb up to the top of one of the high nobiliary Torre Pendenti. Enjoy strolling under the world-famous Bologna’s Porticoes and let yourself be seduced by the gastronomy: its unrivalled mortadella, its delicious pastas, cheeses and wines.

  • "CNL Bolgona to Munich"
The train arrived late by 15 min. But the journey was awesome. It was really great comfort after having a exhaustive day. In morning I was served good veg breakfast with coffee. I would love to travel again by the City Night line.
  • "Excellent service"
I booked a train ticked for my girlfriend to go from Dijon to Bologna and the price and the convenience was much better that with sncf.
  • "Great train trip"
Easy, cheap and comfortable! This train from Bologna and Florence is extremely convenient and I would recommend it to anyone!
  • "Trip to Bologna"
The train from Florence to Bologna was fantastic. I went business class under the super saver option. The service was curtious, and the train was clean, comfortable and quick. I recommend the service to anyone wanting to get from Florence to Bologna.
  • "Milano-Bologna trip "
I'm pleased by my trip. Although I had some difficulties to find the train's platform in Milano (need to add some information in electronic tickets : train #, or/and platform # , or/and train endpoint - as in my case, Bologna wasn't an endpoint, so I was confused) . Milano Centrale is well-organized station, differently from Bologna station, which is under reconstruction now , it was hard to find a proper gate for town exit. Bologna station personnel was very helpful.
  • "Heading Home"
    Excellent service
  • "Relaxing Way To Travel"
Big clear windows provide excellent views of the passing countryside. Comfortable seats and good leg room means you are not distract by discomfort (travelling 1st Class). Staff in restaurant very obliging and helpful.
  • "late trains"
Missed my connection in bologna so had to travel to padua and catch a slow train to munich. Arrived 2 hrs later than expected. Very scenic over the Brenner pass but slow.
  • "late trains."
Late so missed a connection. Not happy.
  • "Bologna to Munchen"
Not so the second part of the journey to Munich the trains heater was stuck on high and after many requests to turn down the heat we all gave up and had to deal with it. It was a shame because this part was the most picturesque. But beside that was a great trip, just a little uncomfortable. I wished the windows were clean as the view from inside was amazing they were quite dirty compared to the Frecciarossa which was very clean although the train inside was fairly clean.
  • "Rome to Munich"
I was quite concerned when I first purchased the tickets that I would not receive them before we left Aus as we only decided quite late to do the train thing, but was prepared to take the chance, 3 days later the tickets arrived express post. I booked online on Thu tickets arrived Mon, excellent. The high speed train experience was awesome, clean comfortable more like an airline would def book again. Only prob was the train ran behind time and only for good luck, just made our connection at Bologna Centrale for the journey to Munchen HBF

  • "Italy trains problem"
The trains in Italy are ALWAYS LATE AND DELAYED! You will have to provide more time between trains!
