While you're there

Bordeaux, gateway to vineyards

Bordeaux is located in the heart of the Aquitaine region and is only 3 hours away by TGV from Paris. Listed as a UNESCO world heritage site, it is the epicurean French destination par excellence. Bordeaux has over a hundred thousand hectares of vineyards and 10,000 grape growers. The city produces large quantities as well as some of the most expensive wines in the world. From Bordeaux, you can take the train to Saint Emilion, one of the world’s most famous vineyards, or opt for a guided tour in a vineyard to taste one of the famous vintage wines of Margaux, Pauillac or Saint-Julien.

Have a walk along the Quais de la Garonne overlooked by the harmonious 18th century façades. Continue to the cathedral Saint-André and the nearby Pey-Berland tower for a panorama over the city. In the evening, have a drink in the Allées de Tourny with a view over the Grand Théâtre. There are two public parks in Bordeaux where you can relax - Jardin botanique de Bordeaux and Jardin botanique de la Bastide. Nature lovers should visit the Bassin d’Arcachon to enjoy a moment of pure bliss on top of its Dune du Pyla (Europe’s highest sand dune) which has an imposing view over the Atlantic Ocean.

Take a break on a terrasse in the quartier Saint-Pierre to sample some of the finest wines together with a Magret de canard and a cannelé (local pastry).

Bordeaux has a wealth of luxury stores which are located in the Golden Triangle, within, Cours de l’Intendance, Cours Georges Clemenceau and Allées de Tourny.

  • "Great trip"
It was very fast and comfortable by TVG train pleasant trip for just 20 eur.from beautiful Bordeaux to medieval town-museum Carcassonne.
  • "Catching the connecting train"
We almost failed to catch our connecting train from Bordeaux to Paris. Our first train arrived late and we experienced difficulty in finding our connecting train because there are no proper signs / instructions at the station. At the connecting train, we have to hop on the first car we saw, dragging our luggages, because there's no more time figuring out which car we are supposed to board. The train started moving just in time when we boarded.
  • "Train stops notification"
It was a night train and there's a good change that you will miss your stop if you stay inside your cabin since there's no "silent" alert that would inform the passengers of the next stop. In our case, we just stood near the exit door more than 30min before the scheduled arrival at Lourdes station just to make sure we will not miss our stop.
  • "A Great Way 2 Travel In France"
The trains run on time, they're comfortable, the website works well for searching times and booking trips. This was our third trip on TGV in the past year and we'll be sure to use it the next time we're in France. One warning - they allow anyone on the boarding platform at Montparnasse so it is chaos getting to your car, especially if it is at the back of the train. Be sure to give yourself lots of time to fight the crowds if you're departing from Montparnasse.
  • "Quick and easy"
The first class seat was a little cramped as I could not stretch my legs out or I would touch the man sitting opposite. Otherwise, the train was clean, fast and efficient.
  • "comfortable ride"
comfortable ride, almost on time efficient
  • "Hassle-free travelling "
Train travel is good in Europe if you do not have many luggages on toll. It provides hassle-free travelling and time saving.
  • "Nice trip "
Very comfortable and as ususal TGVs are a treat by themselves.
  • "Excellent Trip"
Very good, simple, comfortable and we got there with time to spare so there was no pressure at the airport. Toilets were blocked according to the kids so that was not the best but otherwise all good
  • "Great trip"
Always nice to travel with TGV
  • "Comfy ride"
Very convenient from Bordeaux to Center of Paris. Will definitely take this ride again in the future.
  • "Enjoyed the Travel"
It was a good experience traveling from Lourdes to Bordeaux. The information on the website, train stations were excellent. The compartment and the seats are comfortable. Overall we enjoyed the trip
  • "Train trip through France"
    A great way to relax
  • "All as it should be"
Trains on time, excellent comfort n quite a good coffee on board ;)
  • "The Best Way To Travel"
We travelled the 2 hours from Bordeaux to Toulouse via TGV and we could not believe how easy and quick it was. It stopped 3 times but we barely noticed. We sat 1st class with reserved seats and it was perfect. Our cabin was quiet and we were able to rest, read, and enjoy the beautiful French country side.
