While you're there

Düsseldorf, get disguised for its joyful carnival!

Düsseldorf is a german city located on the right bank of the Rhine river. This city counts more than 500.000 inhabitants and is the ninth of the country. It is part of the Rhine-Rhur urban conglomeration, just like the neighbour cities of Cologne and Mönchengladbach.

The city of Düsseldorf is famous thanks to its well-known carnival, one of the most festive in Germany.

Over this event, Düsseldorf is a charming city where you can walk around the wonderful Hofgarten, which is the central park. It houses the rococo style Jägerhof castle, dating from the 18th century, turned into a theatre museum. You can also follow the Rhineuferpromenade along the Rhine river. And if you do not have any vertigo problem, go up to the Rheinturm.

This tower made for german television houses a 170 m high observation platform and enables you to admire the city and the whole region around.

Customer reviews

  • "Dusseldorf - Koeln trip"
Very nice silent train, with free Wi-Fi access (with promo-code on your ticket), nice seats
  • "On schedule"
As always, the train is tidy and clean. It is on schedule as well.
  • "Very good"
it was a good journey, on time and comfortable. thanks
  • "No Communication!"
I had an overnight ticket from Dusseldorf to Copenhagen with an onward journey to Gothenburg but when I got to Dusseldoft HBF to board my train, there was absolutely NO information other than the sign at the track saying the train wasn't going from Dusseldorf. I had no previous communication from Rail Europe to indicate this. There was nobody at the track to give directions and I had to scramble to find out from the customer service desk that I should take another train to Duisberg and get on my overnight train at midnight (two hours after I was expecting to board it in Dusseldorf and WAY past my bedtime!). The journey itself was comfortable enough and the service was good. But nobody could tell me what time we were to arrive in Copenhagen until about 15 minutes before we actually did - and that was 2 hours later than my ticket had originally indicated!! Needless to say, by the time I arrived in Gothenburg I was confused, tired, hungry and very very late.
  • "timing"
    It convenience , on time
  • "Adventure"
better by two I think, 5 countries, missed trains, sleep overs, and cancelled trip for a flight instead on one occasion, but all in all for a first time train traveler it was worth it, and I could only do a better job next time.
  • "Excellent"
This was our favorite trip. Even riding the ferry was an adventure.
  • "Good"
The trip was ok, the only thing that you should improve is that you didn't give me a complete schedule of the train stops, my german is so bad, and i had to change train and it was hard to know what train, what plattform and that stuff.
  • "RAIL TRIP"
Recently took a train trip from Amsterdam to Dusseldorf and back on ICE. The timing was excellent and the train ride was fantastic. I managed to see some of the landscape of both Amsterdam and Gerrmany while on the train and the ride was very smooth. This is similar to fast train ride experience in Japan and maybe a notch better. Thanks to Rail Europe and ICE for ensuring a pleasant journey
