Geneva city guide

Geneva, the second largest Swiss city

Geneva is the second most important city of Switzerland. It is located alongside Lake Geneva, Europe’s largest lake, at the foot of the Jura Mountains. The city of Geneva is home to a number of headquarters to several international organisations such as the United Nations (UN) and the Red Cross. This makes Geneva one of the few global cities with an important financial centre. Geneva is also a popular tourist destination mainly for two reasons. Geneva is a dream city thanks to a unique setting and a magnificent view of Mont-Blanc, the highest peak in Europe. The countryside, the perfect place for outdoor activities, is only a few minutes away from the city. Geneva is the best starting point to visit rest of Switzerland thanks to an excellent public transport connection.

"Paris to London on Eurostar"

  Clara l.
A vast difference from the TGV train we took from Geneva to Paris. The train was prompt in arrival and there was clear order in getting on board the train. There was a staff at each cabin waiting to help on any queries. As we were boarding, he said the cabin we were in did not have any more space for our luggage and suggested we move our luggage to another cabin for storage. He even made the effort to walk us to the cabin and helped us to store the luggage. Everything was very clear and the journey was very enjoyable.

"Comfortable (Geneva - Nice)"

  Anjali g.  07/07/2014
The journey was comfortable, though for long distance journeys there should be a bit more luggage space. However, due to some problem with the printout (the coach number got mashed into other words) due to some software glitch, a lot of people on our train were confused about their seats, and we had to guide some of them to their own seats as they were sitting on ours! The railway staff was not very active in helping people with this issue. Hope you have taken care of the printing issue for future.

"A cheap, comfortable journey"

  Maria Ludovica r.  31/10/2013
I really needed to get to Geneva, Switzerland from Italy, but the costs for Allan ticket were a nightmare. I took a chance and searched for a train, and not only was it affordable, it was also very convenient! The only problem I ha was that raileurope wanted to send me the ticket via mail, and wouldn't let me print it myself, requiring 12€ extra for shipping fees (which is not much, but was absolutely unnecessary). Apart from this, the journey was really comfortable and pleasurable. Definitely something I'll do again!

"Swiss efficiency "

  Mary h.  28/10/2013
Getting to Paris from Geneva is simple - hop the train, settle back, enjoy the ride and the view and in 3 short hours arrive in Gare de Lyon. The train is quiet, in 1st class they provide a plated snack, lots of non-alcoholic drinks, and the option to have a pre-arranged taxi on arrival.

"Value For Your Money"

We went to Pisa Centrale from Genova P.P. Everything was great, i never expected a good trip like this. Trains are coming on time and the people are always kind

"Convenient way to travel"

  Nokukhanya m.  27/10/2013
I travelled alone (female) from Geneva to Zurich and felt safe all the way. The train was clean and comfortable. I enjoyed the scenery on the three hour long trip and once I got to Zurich main station I had to change trains to get to my hotel. The information desk at Zurich station were happy to direct me to the correct platform.

"Lyon-Geneva-Lyon"

  William n.  15/10/2013
We recently travelled as above... the journey to Geneva was not easy as SNCF decided to finish the trip at a station well before Geneva !!! Eventually order prevailed ( there were a lot of non-fluent trevellers, and we were led to another train. This of course meant substantial delays for everyone on the train. The train inquestion was fairly old and not all that comfortable. However, the return trip was another story... a very comfortable train, left on time - arrived on time. Not your fault at Rail Europe.. just one of those things. We have booked with you before, and will be using you again. Bill

"5 -Day Trip"

  Hari s.  25/09/2013
It was the second time that we had taken a Swiss Rail Pass. It turned out to be quite convenient as we had to travel between Geneva, Lusanne, and Zurich, for the 5 days that we spent in Switzerland. What makes ths Pass even better is that it is valid for any mode of public transport, with the only exception being the Metro in Lusanne.

"pleasant and comfortabl"

  Ahmed Shahan k.  24/09/2013
We traveled from Paris to Geneva and the whole experience was great. The only thing which can improve is a little guidance and signboards at the Paris train station. Rest of the experience was great. Train departed/arrived on time, interior was neat and clean and friendly staff. 5 stars from me.

"Trip to Gevene and Montpellier"

  Ahmed Shahan k.  23/09/2013
It was wonderful experience of Life specially on time arrival and departure is amazing, the most interesting part train setup, the cafeteria, toilet facilities and ground staff. I was surprise when i asked for the help of locating a place TVG staff not only help me but guide me through computer printed map.

"Awesome trip"

  Vivek k.  22/09/2013
I was on my honeymoon trip to Europe (Switzerland and Paris) and we took a deviation from our group tour from Geneva to Paris (Gare De Lyon) via TGV Lyria in Ist Class, and the experience was so often as it was my childhood dream to travel in TGV since it was newly introduced by that time. The complementary meal was served as breakfast, which could be added somewhat with Indian food choice as well, the train reached on time at Paris. Overall, it was an excellent experience, and will be traveling atleast one journey in future European tours also via TGV :) I hope TGV will maintain its same reputation throughout.
