Graz city guide
Located in the southeast of Austria, Graz is a vibrant city with two UNESCO World Heritage Sites - its old town and the castle of Eggenberg. The image of the city is highlighted by the hill Schlossberg with the clock tower, the view of the red roofs and the magnificent modern building of the Kunsthaus.
Graz (2h30 trip from Vienna) is proud to have the largest medieval old town in Europe. Among the most beautiful streets, you will find the Herrengasse, Sporgasse and Sackstrasse. During your walk, discover beautiful courtyards as the Renaissance courtyard of the Landhaus or the Herzoghof.
Buy the 24 hours transport ticket and take any tram to the Südtirolerplatz in order to contemplate two masterpieces of modern architecture: the river Mur Island with its giant shell and the Kunsthaus building. From the Schlossberg hill you will enjoy the best views of the city.
Head to Hauptplatz, the main square, where you will find beautiful buildings with renaissance and baroque façades. At 11:00 am, 3:00 pm and 6:00 pm, you can watch musicians playing carillon at the Glockenspielplatz square.
Be sure to visit the castle of Eggenberg (take tram 1), a baroque jewel with large gardens, where you will be received by a peacock.
At dinner time discover the charming restaurants in the Glockenspielplatz, Mehlplatz, Schmiedgasse or Sackstrasse. Sample the culinary delights of the region such as the Schilcher Rahmsuppe (creamy soup with rose wine from the region), the Käferbohnen mit Kernöl (big red beans with pumpkin seed oil), the Vulcan Schinken (Styrian ham), and the Steirisches Wurzelfleisch (cooked beef) accompanied by a glass of Sauvignon Blanc.
Trains are convenient way to reach any town and city in Europe. All main towns have a railway station, while major cities have more than two railway stations. Nearly all railway stations are located in the city centre. Check our map to locate railway station(s) in Graz.

Rail in Europe is a wonderful way to travel the trains on all our journeys were clean and prompt. The only point is at Mestre Station there is no lift to move your luggage as family we have 4 pcs of luggage that becomes a problem lugging it down and then up. The porter service is available but at a fee not base on personal gratuity. Otherwise a great way to travel
- "Comfortable train, ticket mess" Lina u. 30/09/2013
I booked my train tickets through the Rail Europe website, and this turned out to be a nightmare, since the day I booked, there was no option to receive the tickets by email. Something about the booking website seemed wrong. Therefore I had to tick off for "send by air mail", which started a long unhappy process of almost not getting the tickets in time, tickets getting lost on their way, etc. When I finally received my tickets, and I was taking the actual train trip, I had a really good time, though!
