Overview

See a slice of the real Italy

Naples, the 3rd largest city of Italy

Naples, also known as Napoli in Italian, is one of the oldest cities in the world. The city was already inhabited 9 centuries before the common era. Located on the shadow of the majestic Mt Vesuvius, the city is a real life theatre. The city has retained a cultural and local feel with vintage tailors and family restaurants to bear testimony. Naples is a passionate city where ancient passageways, secret courtyard and ancient cults reside. Naples is an all year round destination. However the city is more visited during the month of May due to the Maggio dei Monumenti festival.

About Italy

Have a look at the baroque architecture in the centro storico (historic centre). Take photos next to the statues set in coves outside the Royal Palace and enjoy the beautiful open space leading to the beautiful Teatro San Carlo. Walk down the nearby hill to the port; it’s one of the largest in the Mediterranean Sea. Head out of the centre and take a picnic to the botanical gardens of Portici. Here you’ll find the majestic Portici Palace and gardens containing over 1000 species of plants.

As the city claiming to have invented Margherita pizza, the cheesy dish is a must. With the hot climate iced slush drinks are a popular street treat, and of course pasta dishes are a speciality.

This University City has plenty of bookshops and trendy boutique shopping around the Napoli Centrale train station. Head for Via Chiaia for the most original shops, and the Galleria Umberto for the most incredible glass-roofed ceiling you’ll ever see on a shopping arcade.
