Nevers city guide

Nevers, the excellence of the regional gastronomy, the tranquility of a burgundian town

Situated in central France, in the Burgundy area, Nevers is the main town of the Nièvre department. It’s also a place whose reputation stems from the finest of porcelains, and also from the excellent wine called Pouilly Fumé.

Do not miss the old town, with its typical buildings from the 14th up to the 17th century. Nevers’ cathedral of Saint Quiricus and Saint Julietta is also to be seen. It mixes both Romanesque and Gothic styles.

The Ducal Palace is a jewel of the feudal architecture from the end of the Middle Ages. Nevers is also the place were Saint Bernadette Soubirous’s relics are well preserved. But Nevers is also known for a good gastronomy. This is the place where you find great nougat, négus (a kind of soft toffee) and the famous charolais beef.

Add to it some of the finest wines of Burgundy, and pleasure is at hand.
