Pisa, world-famous Italian city located in Tuscany

Pisa is city which is world known for its leaning tower – The Leaning Tower of Pisa. The city is also a knowledge hub, with approximately 40,000 students for a population of 100,000 inhabitants. Located in Tuscany region, Pisa was an important naval base in the Roman times. The historic city centre is surrounded by 12th century walls. Pisa is now well known for its art and architectural treasures. The city is the birthplace of Galileo Galilei and seat of a prestigious university, founded in 1343. Other notable landmarks included the buildings in the ‘‘Piazza dei Miracoli’’ (Square of Miracles).


The most iconic landmarks of Pisa is undoubtedly the world-famous leaning tower, the cathedral and baptistery. The Leaning Tower of Pisa is one of the most famous monuments in the world. From 1173 up to current time, the Tower has constantly been the object of very special attention because of its dramatic lean. Besides the tower, Pisa has other significant sights such as the Duomo, the Cathedral of Pisa, with its Romanesque panels, and the Museo Nazionale di San Matteo which contains many examples of Romanesque and Gothic art.

The Piazza Garibaldi is the main drinking spot. It comes alive at night with students and trendies. For a special drink, try the Op Art Café. It houses different exhibitions every month from local and international artists and photographers. Like the rest of Italy, Pisa is gelato crazy, try the Nutellata at La Bottega del Gelato.

The Borgo Stretto is the main shopping street, beautified with some fantastically detailed frescoes. On the second weekend of every month the streets around Piazza dei Cavalieri, there is an open market, showing off the best of Pisan food and craft.

    We went to Pisa Centrale from Genova P.P. Everything was great, i never expected a good trip like this. Trains are coming on time and the people are always kind

    I traveled to Pisa from Rome in a second class coach so you I had to share a cabin with other five passengers. . The train stops in every station on the line. If you can, take the fastest train and not this one. Considering the price I would said it was o.k though.  
  • "Pisa to Rapallo"    
    We were surprised at how easy everything was! The train was really late and they were able to get us on a different train and all was well!
