Valenciennes can boast about having a varied heritage. Architectural, mortuary, military and fortified, mining and industrial, religious or rural heritage, you will have a lot to do and see in and around Valenciennes, and you may be spoiled for choice!

Visit the oldest medieval church of the city, the belfry-church St Gery whose construction started back in the 12th century. Do not miss the Notre Dame du Cordon basilica, where an important pilgrimage takes place in september. In the historic centre, you can see few houses dating back to the 13th century!

Museum lovers, head the Fine Arts museum that houses the french second largest collection of flemish paintings.
