Don’t Miss

Walk the Corniche, a stretch of road set along 2200km of coastline, and rest on the world’s longest bench. The huge Parc Borély, just 300m from the sea, is a great place to practice your rickshaw skills.

Retail Therapy

Get to the Old Harbour near the Marseille Saint Charles Train Station early to see fishermen selling their wares. Le Cours Julien and Place Jean Jaurès are great places to pick up some interesting books, visit the colourful markets while you’re there.

Eat and Drink

Try the local speciality bouillabaisse, a fish-based stew served with garlic and saffron sauce. The Panier area is a great place to enjoy a glass of Provençal rosé on a terrace before heading to Rue La Maronnaise for cocktails at a beachside bar.

Hidden Gem

The famous Notre Dame de la Garde, the church on the hill, is worth a climb up to see inside. Fishermen had their boats blessed here by Madonna, and the interior is now a tribute to lost fishermen. Model ships made by grateful sailors hang from the ceilings and gilded mosaics tell stories of survivals and losses at sea.
