Travel inspiration in Zurich and Vienna
Zürich, the largest city of Switzerland
Zürich is a major financial centre and one of the most preferred Swiss destinations. In 2012, it was voted as the best city to live in Europe. It is an elegant metropolis on the lake bearing its name, with views over the snow-covered Alps, home to over 50 museums, 100 galleries, top hotels, shops and restaurants. Obviously it has to be Zürich! With its excellent public transport connections, this prime Swiss destination is ideal for excursions to the rest of the country. 5 days there, and you will get to know all about Zürich and neighbouring towns.
Vienna is the capital city of Austria and home to approximately 1,6 million inhabitants. Vienna is the seat of many multinationals and is becoming more and more important as a centre for trade between Western and Eastern Europe. Vienna is also a city of green parks, calm, dreamy alleys, art and music. This city is rightly deemed a city worth living in, being a cosmopolitan city of culture and gastronomy.
Reviews & ratings Zurich - Vienna
It was a very good experience travelling by the night train from the Vienna to Zurich. The night train started at very late hours around 11.45 pm and we have to wait for it in the train station for a few hours as it was pretty cold at winter now. The train looked a bit old and the the 2 pax sleepers rooms we booked was small. We have 2 big luggages and that already take up most of the space beside the bed and hardly can find any other space. Luckily my husband and I were not fat, we are able to fit into the 2 small beds, 1 in the upper and the other in the lower decker. There is a small basin in the room and it looked old too. By the next morning when we reach Zurich, the scenery outside the train refreshed us a lot. A light breadfast was served to us from the train crew and his look was serious and never smile. I think if the train crew could be a little bit friendly and that could make us feel happier a little. Overall, the night train is not as comfortable as the trains we travelled in the day time.
it is cheaper than normal price, but seat space so crowd.
You definitely need a reservation when travelling on this train. Otherwise standing could be the option. There is no luggage storage space even in first class which is stressful. First class carriage not grand or special.
I traveled in first class. The WiFi does not work properly. I expect something more than potatoes pack.
We took the train from wein to zurich and we were not sure what to expect for the room. I would say that the only thing that was not the best is the space to be for 2 people in a small room. The room is very small but you have everything in there. you have lavatory, food the toilet y very close, and the window to look in a very nice night made our trip the best. The service was really good and I liked it a lot.
I travelled first class from Zurich to Salzburg, then from Salzburg to Vienna. The trains were on time, had clear announcements, and arrived on time. The only complaint I have is that for first class, the service was not great. A snippy woman came by to sell drinks — not even a bottle of water free — and she would not accept Swiss francs for the coffee I ordered, even though we were travelling through Switzerland. She insisted on Euros, which fortunately I happened to have. You can eat on the train, but if you don't want to pay their prices, you definitely need to bring along something to eat and drink. Also, first class does not suggest luxury. This is quite an ordinary first class. On the other hand, first class is not expensive by most countries' standards, and I thought the two rides were excellent value for money. Reliability is often an issue with trains, and this one was right on time all the way. Finally, it was easy to get to the train stations in central Zurich and Salzburg, and I got off at a station in Vienna where I could catch the subway to my hotel. Very convenient.
The terminal is too far away from the city centre
The biggest drawback to the travel was inconsistent Wi-Fi. The rest of the travel was wonderful. I enjoyed my journey. I would certainly do it again.
The 9.34am from Zurich on a Friday was crowded but comfortable. Travelling at up to 199MPH, and punctual, it enabled us to travel from Zurich to Manchester in one day. Pretty good. We had come from Budapest to Vienna and Vienna to Zurich via the Arlberg pass earlier in the week with a full day in both Vienna and Zurich. Good hotels near the main stations. A great journey home by rail! Only East Coast let us down!
we enjoyed or trip from Salzburg to Zurich - we had a first class pass and would thoroughly recommend the extra money - ! But please note the seats we paid to be reserved were not reserved for us on any of our trips !
Perhaps it would be a good idea if there was a greater choice of food on this trip. By the time we arrived in Vienna, very late at night we were quite hungry. The train staff were very pleasant.
