Travel inspiration in Dijon and Venice
Dijon, the capital of the Burgundy
Dijon is a town located in Burgundy region and home to more than 150,000 inhabitants. The town is probably most famous for its mustard. With an exceptional architectural heritage, the city of Dijon has 97 hectares of remarkably preserved monuments. Dijon is the gateway to the world renowned Côte de Nuits vineyards. Visitors can choose a guided tour to the vineyards and enjoy a glass of excellent wine in Marsannay-la-Côte, Gevrey-Chambertin, Vosne-Romanée or Nuits-Saint-Georges. Don’t forget to look out for the lucky charm of Dijon: the particularly worn-out little Chouette, which fulfills the wish of those who touch it with a left hand stroke.
Dijon is conveniently found on the Rhin-Rhône high speed railway line, making it easily reachable from Paris in approximately 1h35 and from Basel (Switzerland) in 2h10 by train.
Venice is a unique experience for every traveller and certainly a must for lovers. Few people know that Venice is actually an island-city with a train bridge connecting it to mainland Italy. This romantic city actually has no roads at all! To move around there are 150 canals and over 400 bridges! Venice has also beautiful churches, squares and museums. The southern part of the Venice has a certain village feel. Perfect to wander around in the little alleys, get lost and finally reach the Santa Margherita square. Ideal place for its lively bars!
Reviews & ratings Dijon - Venice
The sleep on the train was surprisingly comfortable! It was certainly a new experience to sleep while travelling to another different country. There was enough space in a 6 bunk coach. Our train conductor was friendly as well. Only con was the toilet was not very clean and smelt bad. And also during the night we had to switch train compartments as ours had faulty problems (aircond and all electricity items) not working. Was a mad rush to wake up suddenly to be told to move as all other passengers were rushing to their compartments. However, the conductors has allocated us new bunk beds earlier so no arguments on who gets which beds. Other than that, it was great.
