Chur, cross swords with the ibex horns!
Nestled in Switzerland’s Schanfigg valley and surrounded by the Alps, Chur has a 16th century old town with pretty winding alleys to explore in the fresh mountain air. Be sure to try Capricorn Brot, fresh bread shaped like an ibex horn - the region’s symbol.
As one of the oldest settlements in Switzerland, stemming from the Bronze Age, Chur has an incredibly rich heritage. Hence, quite many sites are to be experienced by History lovers. First, there is the prehistoric area and Roman Vicus of Welschdörfli.
Then, there is the charming medieval center of the city. The cathedral of the Assumption, the Catholic church of St-Luzi and the Reformed church of St-Martin are not to be missed either.
Add to this, the four museums about Art, Natural History, the cathedral and the Raethician culture, and you get an unforgettable journey at the crossroad between the romansh and german speaking Switzerland.
